Orientation Frequently Asked Questions
All new students are strongly encouraged to complete orientation to learn about the resources and services available to them at SBCC. Students who are enrolling in college for the first time with an educational goal of basic skills improvement, an associates degree, or transfer to a four-year institution are required to complete orientation. These students will have a registration hold that prevents them from registering for classes until they have completed orientation.
Registration holds are listed on your student record in the campus portal. To find your registration holds, follow these directions:
- Log in to the campus portal.
- Click on Student Records in the Registration and Student Records panel.
- Click on View Holds.
See Orientation Home to determine which orientation is right for you. If you are a new student for Spring semester, please note that Online Orientation is the only option for English-speaking, domestic students.
Domestic ESL students need to attend one of the ESL Orientation/Advising/Registration sessions offered prior to the start of the semester. You will also need to attend one of the ESL assessment dates. Click here for more information on ESL Orientation/Advising/Registration.
If you are from out-of-the-area and attending an orientation over the summer with your parents, we encourage you to attend orientation as early in the summer as possible so you can register for the classes you need.
