Welcome to Student Health Medical Services!
Medical Office Visits are by Appointment for That Day
- Single doses of commonly used over the counter medicines.
- Band-Aids, condoms and feminine products also available.
Enrolled SBCC students will be assessed and may be referred to outside providers such as Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics (SBNC) and/or Planned Parenthood. There are income eligibility requirements (most students qualify) and paperwork to fill out at the time of your first appointment. When making appointment with SBNC or Planned Parenthood, mention being seen through the FamPact Program for sexual health services.
SBCC Student Health Services Offers (SS-170):

- Emergency Contraception (Plan B)

Through SBNC and Planned Parenthood, students may access additional support services (often at lower cost):
• Birth Control Options
• STI (Sexually Transmitted Infections) testing and treatment

You're NEVER too old to get immunized! We offer tuberculosis skin tests and often seasonal flu vaccines (during apppriate months)
Recommended Vaccinations for College Students: You're NEVER too old to get immunized!
The following vaccines are avaiable in the community.
- FLU offered at SHS during appropriate months such as October-December
- Tetanus/Tdap (whooping cough) > This vaccine needs to be renewed every 10 yrs (5 yrs if you had a deep/dirty wound)
- Meningococcal (meningitis) > Effective vaccine to prevent a serious illness to type A & B meningitis.
- HPV/Human Papillomavirus > This vaccine is for both men and women Prevents HPV infections, cervical and genital cancer.
- MMR/Measles, Mumps, Rubella

Dental Services: Dr. Doran Z. Dobranszky, D.D.S. is offering dental services at discount prices for SBCC students who do not have dental insurance. For a list of prices please stop by Student Health or the International Student Office. The dentists' office is located at 5901 Encina Road, Suite C-1, in Goleta. To make an appointment please call (805) 967-5671.
SBCC offers a secondary insurance policy to cover students for accidental injuries that occur in class or college sponsored activities. Accidents must be reported to the Student Health Services office (SS-170) within 72 hours. Students must first submit claims to their private primary insurance. There is a $50 deductible on claims. For full information on this coverage, bulletins are available at the Student Health Services office (SS-170).

Some people qualify to apply outside the enrollment period. Qualifying events include life changes like: getting divorced, married; having a baby or adopting; losing coverage because you turned 26, left your job, or your job benefits were reduced. For more information about whether you can apply for health insurance outside of the Open Enrollment Period, see resources listed below.
If you qualify for Medi-Cal (making $16,105 or less for a single adult; $32,913 for a family of 4), you can apply at any time.
Having insurance, and a local primary care provider (physician or nurse practitioner) makes it easier to succeed in school. Data about college student success supports this statement. That is why the Student Health Services staff is dedicated to assisting you in enrolling in health insurance. We do this in a number of ways.
Certified Enrollment Counselors are available in the community through the County of Santa Barbara's Public Health Department and Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics.
